A Brief History of Life and Times of Igor

I was watching reruns of M*A*S*H in 2004 one morning, and Hawkeye was doing his usual ranting about the state of food at the 4077. Hawkeye blurts out "Igor...," the character usually on KP duty, and was somehow instantly inspired.

I ran off to my computer, pounded out about 10 pages worth of material, and forgot about it until 2005.

In 2005, I was rewriting "Summertime Blues," and needing a project, dusted off what I then referred to Igor as the short film script. I tried it as a short story.

Then I tried it again as a one act play.

Then again as a full motion picture script, combining elements from the previous three versions.

Then I revised and expanded it again. I had a few people interested, but they all fell apart.

2006 I revised it yet again, and tried again. Nothing. Heard rumblings of a CGI movie. Wondered if I was able to sue, but found out they'd started their project in 2004 as well.

In the spring of 2008 I got annoyed when the CGI animated version of Igor was announced as having its official release date, and so I whined and bitched about the previous four years, when someone on Mania suggested I make it a comic book.

I thought "what the hell, why not? Can't make it a movie anymore."

I set out to compress the most recent draft of the 120 page into a 60 page comic book, but I kept writing stuff that came before all the events of the actual story I'd been working on for four years, so I called that script "Origins." The rest of the script was to be divided into 2 further chapters.

I shopped it around, and found someone who was actually interested. They held onto it for a good four to six months, and it returned one day with the literary equivalent of a Dear John letter. If that wasn't bad enough, it was a standard form letter. So much for their announcement of how much they loved it.

Now with the announcement that a guy whose involved with the "Underworld" movies is making his "I, Frankenstein" movie AND comic, I decided a drastic undertaking was needed to make sure my Igor story could be seen first.

As I still, as of now, have no agent and no reliable contacts in either New York or Hollywood, I'm going to start posting the entire series in sections.

Enjoy!
